About Cullompton
People have called Cullompton home for thousands of years. Among the ancient discoveries is a mace head from around 6,000 years ago, hailing from the Middle Stone Age.
As the New Stone Age dawned and farming became a way of life, artifacts such as a sandstone pebble hammer and a perforated quartzite hammer were unearthed at Hillersdon. Excavations near Shortlands Lane revealed prehistoric pottery and worked flint from this era.
